A peaceful lesson from a herd of Somerset Ayrshires
It is sometimes difficult to silence your own internal narratives, when exploring a new environment, yet the quiet poise of this dairy herd compels you to find a moment of stillness. It is this peaceful essence which I wish to pass on, through these pictures of a Somerset Dairy and their graceful herd of Ayrshires.
Farming is an industry of consistent change and modernisation, which has brought a greater mechanisation of farming methods. Nonetheless, traditional routines still prevail. This disparity creates an odd tension between the old and the new, perhaps leaving an uneasy void of contemplation.
What remains unchanged is the relationship that exists between the land, man, and beast. Although its form has altered significantly, it is important to remember the foundations of these relationships. Therefore, by joining these Ayrshires in a moment of stillness, perhaps you can find the time to ponder and reconnect to the animals and their land; the source of all our sustenance.
